elise geary - biography

Elise Weinrich Geary grew up in Michigan and took classes at Cranbrook Academy of Art prior to attending Bennington College. Her initial focus on a career in art changed to science, leading to medical school at Medical University of South Carolina and a Dermatology residency at Duke Medical University. She opened a private practice in Durham, NC in 1982.

In 1993, Elise renewed her interest in art and began showing and selling her watercolors in various galleries in North Carolina until retiring from her full-time medical practice to move to Vero Beach, Florida in 2010.

Elise furthered her art education through individual study with nationally known teaching artists Linda Daly Baker, Deborah Gooch, Marianne Mitchell and Timothy Sanchez. This has allowed her to move into a deeper realm of artistic expression through abstraction, creating oil and acrylic paintings inspired by the connection between human spirit and nature.

Notable exhibitions include the Award of Merit at the December 2017 Vero Beach Art Trail, 2017 oil award winner at Vero Beach Artist Guild Gallery, Panelist at the 2017 Vero Beach Cultural Council "Leading Ladies in the Art" forum, 2016 Artist of the Month at Vero Beach Artist Guild Gallery, 2015 acrylic award winner at Vero Beach Art Club's Art By The Sea as well as various studio Tours including 2014 Vero Beach Art Trail and 2016 Sebastian Art Studio Tour.
